(BLOOMFIELD) - A Bloomfield man was arrested after he allegedly battered and strangled one of his family members Monday.
According to police 28-year-old Rodney Hughes was arrested after police received a report from one of Hughes' family members that reported she was tired of being beat on by Hughes and that she feared for her life.
During the most recent incident, she told police Hughes became verbally abusive and eventually grabbed her by the throat and pushed her down a hallway before throwing her onto a chair. She stated that she could not breathe or yell for help.
The woman says Hughes let her go and she told him she was going to call the police, but was told by Hughes if she did that they would both got to jail because there was marijuana in the house.
The woman says she attempted to dial 911, but Hughes grabbed the phone. That is when she left the home to find help.
As she was leaving Hughes allegedly began slamming the door multiple times and yelling at the woman that if she called police they would both go to jail.
According to a probable cause affidavit the woman' suffered an abrasion and redness to her neck.
But when police spoke to Hughes he told police there was no physical altercation.
Hughes was arrested on charges of strangulation, battery resulting in bodily injury, and interference with the reporting of a crime.
