(BEDFORD) - A Heltonville woman was arrested after police found her pushing her scooter at the intersection of 17th and H streets Wednesday.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to the Circle K at 6:33 p.m. after a report of an intoxicated woman attempting to steal items from the store.
When police arrived, a store employee told them that a woman, who they believed was intoxicated, was inside the store putting items under her shirt. The employee approached the woman and asked her what she was doing and that is when the woman removed the items and placed them on the counter.
"The employee then called police," Parsley says. "The woman then attempted to start a moped and couldn't get it to start so she began pushing the moped south on H Street."
Officers located 28-year-old Brooke Shelton at the intersection of H and 17th streets.
"She was staggering and waving all over the road as she pushed the moped," Parsley added. "For her own safety, she was arrested and charged with public intoxication."
