(BLOOMINGTON) - Just in time to prepare for the expected rush of parents needing a night of rest after helping their kids move into IU’s dorms, Bloomington’s newest hotel has opened its doors.
The Hyatt Place, at 217 West Kirkwood Ave., with 172 suites and a price tag of about $27 million, opened on Tuesday.
Early in the afternoon of its first day, a few rooms already were filled, with staff in place -- some on loan from other regional Hyatts to help with startup -- and only a few technicians still applying finishing touches.
Hyatt Place Bloomington will be the third White Lodging-managed hotel in Bloomington. The hotel is close to all of the restaurants, theaters and bars that create Bloomington's unique, cultural reputation. It is also located one block from the Bloomington Convention Center and is an easy walking distance to the campus of Indiana University.
