(DAVIESS CO.) - Daviess County Republicans have selected Janice Williams to fill the vacant spot on the ballot as their candidate for Daviess County Clerk.
Williams was selected during a caucus of precinct committeemen on Tuesday evening over Lynn Goodwin.
Republicans held the caucus to fill the vacancy created when candidate Rosemary Abel dropped out of the race because off family health responsibilities.
Officials report 24 of the 25 precinct committeemen in Daviess County took part in the special caucus.
Williams worked in the clerk's office for 14 years as a deputy from 1989 to 2003 before she accepted a position in the Daviess Superior Court. She has worked there since then and also works part-time as a real estate agent.
Williams comes from a political background. She is the daughter of Sheriff Jerry Harbstreit. She has been an active member in the Republican party serving on several campaigns and has also served as an officer in he Daviess County Republican Women's Club.
Because Daviess County's Democrats have not fielded a candidate for clerk, Williams will become the next clerk following the November election.
