(BEDFORD) - The Knights of Columbus annual fundraiser to help those with intellectual and developmental disabilities will be September 5th and 6th.
Money raised will be donated to the LARC Achievement Center to assist its clients. The money is used for job training and employment opportunities, including its supervised job trials. Under this program, LARC clients work in prospective job environments for several weeks with LARC supervision, at no cost to the employer, as a way to prove the LARC client can do the work.
Joint Services will also receive a share to assist its developmental preschool programs in Lawrence County. Also receiving a share will be Bedford North Lawrence to establishment of a life skills area, which will provide students the opportunity to learn real life skills with a hands-on approach.
Last year, the Knights raised $14,552.43, of that $7,877.43 was given to LARC and $6,675 was donated to Englewood School. The money for Englewood was used to purchase notebook computers for the new classrooms at Stalker and Bedford North Lawrence and to help pay for a protective surface for the playground at Stalker since it would now be shared with special needs children after the closing of Englewood.
Members will be at all Bedford Federal Savings Bank branches, Price Less IGA, WalMart and the Hoosier Hills Credit Union branches in both Bedford and Mitchell.
Volunteers are also needed for the event. You don't have to be Catholic or a knight to assist with the fund drive. Anyone will to help collect donations can call Greg Stanley at 583-5828.
Those wanting to send in donations can at Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive at P.O. Box 116, Bedford, IN 47421. Major contributors to this year's drive include the Lawrence County Community Foundation and General Motors.
