Linton Teacher Hopes To Compete On American Ninja Warrior

Last updated on Tuesday, August 19, 2014

(LINTON) - Cory Beenson, a social studies teacher at Linton-Stockton Junior High, is hoping to fulfill his dream of competing on American Ninja Warrior.

American Ninja Warrior is an action-packed series that follows competitors as they tackle the world's most difficult obstacle courses in qualifying and finals rounds in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Denver and Miami, with the national finals round in Las Vegas. The top ten competitors go on to the finals in Japan where they will attempt to complete the obstacle course known as Mount Midoriyama.

So far, 2700 athletes have attempted this course and only three people have ever been successful in completing Mount Midoriyama - none of them have been American.

The Greene County Daily World reports, Beeson, a gymnast for five years, hopes to be one of those that competes in Japan.

During his time at Franklin College, he played tennis and was also a diver and a swimmer.

While in college he caught the fever and became an avid viewer of American Ninja Warrior.

This is the second year that Beeson is attempting to get a spot on the show and during these two years, Cory has kept a rigorous routine working with veteran competitors of the show.

Beenson sent in his video in February. There are about 10,000 people who send in their submission across the United States and of that number, only 100 people are elected to be on the show.

The prize money for winning American Ninja Warrior is $500,000 and if Cory wins he plans on donating a portion of the prize money to multiple sclerosis (MS) research.

Beenson's father and mother-in-law suffer from the disease.
