Indiana State Police say 24-year-old Arvel Griffey, Jr.was at a park Friday with a woman and her child while out on work release. Investigators believe the child started crying on the way back to the Dubois County Community Corrections Center and Griffey struck the child.
Police arrested Griffey Jr., of 12924 East U.S. 50, on a felony charge of battery resulting in serious bodily injury to a person less than 14-years-old.
