(MITCHELL) - Mitchell city officials passed an annual resolution to allow Administrative Resources association to seek state and federal public transit funding.
The Times-Mail reports that the city will receive 13 percent more money from the federal government for a total of $47,813. That money requires a 50-50 match from the city, but part of the match comes from state funding.
State funding also increased, which will give the city $19,259, a 19 percent increase, toward the match.
Eric Frey, executive director of Administrative Resources association, says the increase of funding is because of the increase of ridership. In 2013 buses provided 10,350 rides, of those 6,418 were senior citizens. Already this year, about 5,500 people have rode the city buses.
Included in the request is the purchase of a new bus. If the request is approved the state would provide $37,000 for the bus, with the city paying $9,000.
