(MITCHELL) - 31-year-old Amber Rayhill was arrested Thursday on a warrant after police say she left her child for two hours alone while she went out partying.
Rayhill, of Mitchell, is facing a charge of neglect of a dependent and public intoxication.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on August 2, Rayhill's neighbor called police to Elm park II about the theft of medication. The neighbor claims Rayhill had been at the apartment and was caught going through the neighbor's purse. When Rayhill left the neighbor discovered the medication was missing.
A short time later, Rayhill's 8-year-old son was screaming at Rayhill not to leave him alone, but Rayhill told the child to go back inside the apartment and Rayhill left.
A neighbor, who was concerned about the child, had him come to their apartment.
After an hour and a half, the neighbor called police. Police then notified the Department of Child Services.
Police were arranging for the child to be taken to the police department when Rayhill returned home intoxicated.
Police say Rayhill was also yelling at the children.
Rayhill admitted that she had taken three Ambien, three Percocet and three Lortab, 10 Xanax and had smoked marijuana.
Because of her level of intoxication, Rayhill was taken by ambulance to the hospital.
The child was taken to the Mitchell Police Department and later released to the custody of his father.
Rayhill is also facing felony charges of burglary and two counts of theft in an unrelated case.
