(JACKSON CO.) - When it comes to purchasing equipment to fight fires, $5,000 may not seem like a lot of money.
But for one rural Jackson County fire department that kind of money, paired with a local match of $5,000, will go a long way toward improving the services it provides to the people living in its coverage area. That area spans two townships and part of the Hoosier National Forest.
The Indiana Department of Natural Resources Forestry Division awarded Owen-Salt Creek a $5,000 volunteer fire assistance grant from the state through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
