(BLOOMFIELD) - The Greene County Commissioners gave their final approval for Wolfe Construction, of Vincennes to remodel the Greene County Community Building.
Commissioners President Rick Graves says construction should begin in about three weeks.
That is about how long it will take to move the current occupants - who include the Greene County Extension Office, to a temporary located at White River Valley High School in Switz City.
The Greene County Daily World reports, the final plan for the building didn't come without cutbacks and concessions. The original base bid of just over $1.6 million was scaled down to a final tally of just over $1.4 million after modifications to the plan - mainly centered around a proposed county records storage room - were made.
Most of the changes to the building were cosmetic or the elimination of optional items.
The estimated completion date for the building is April of 2015 and will depend on weather and other delays.
One ripple effect of the construction project is the temporary relocation of voters in the Fairplay and Grant Townships. Due to the project, the voting site will be relocated to the Switz City Fire Department for the upcoming election only.
Once the building is completed voting for the two townships will return to the fairgrounds.
