(MITCHELL) - Mitchell Police Chief Mike Hardman says $1,800 in entry fees for the Mini, Little and Junior Miss Persimmon Pageant was stolen Tuesday.

Police were notified about the theft at 5:43 am. Tuesday, but believe the cash and checks were taken from the vehicle parked in the 600 block of West Frank Street sometime during the night.

"All of the money was in envelopes in a bag," according to Hardman. "There was no sign of forced entry into the vehicle.

Pageant Chairwoman Candi Dersch told police the vehicle was locked.

Dersch's vehicle was not the only vehicle broke into this week. Police received other reports of vehicles being broke into Monday night and Tuesday morning.

"Two of the vehicles were in the same area," Hardman says. "The other was a few blocks away. We believe the same person broke into all of the vehicles."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Mitchell Police Department at 849-2151.

Dersch says the theft will not stop the pageant which is scheduled for Saturday.

Judging will begin at 9 a.m. till 5 p.m. and crowning will be on the Main Street stage on Monday.
