(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Town Council an ordinance to permit the use of golf carts on roads and highways within town limits with a new registration and if one does not obtain a permit, penalties will arise if not followed.
Permits need to be obtained by April 1, 2015 and will be valid through March 31, 2016.
In order to obtain a permit, owners are required to pay an annual registration fee of $25 to the town, have a valid driver's license, and the golf cart must be insured for use on public roads and highways and proof of insurance must be carried within the golf cart at all times.
Golf carts are also required to display a triangular slow moving vehicle emblem or a red or an amber flashing lamp.
For golf carts to be operated on the roadways between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m., it must be equipped with both functional headlights and taillights in addition to the foregoing requirements.
There will be a $75 fine for any violations to this ordinance.
Utility Terrain Vehicles are exempt from this ordinance, as long as they are registered and following the state mandated guidelines.
Temporary three day permits will also be available to purchase for $10. Temporary permits can be used at special events such as during the Community Yard Sales and the Apple Festival.
The new ordinance and it will go into effect on April 1, 2015.
