(OOLITIC) - The Oolitic Town Council appointed Jessica Staggs to replace Town Clerk-Treasurer Jim Staley Monday night.
Staley is retiring.
Staggs will serve the remainder of Staley's term which ends in December 2015. She plans to seek election on the Republican ticket.
Staggs, who has been the assistant clerk for 6 years, will take office officially on October 27. She will be sworn into office during the town council meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Staggs moved to Oolitic in June with her husband of 10 years Jared Staggs and the couple's two children. They were living in Springville.
One of Staggs' first duties will be to hire an assistant.
The qualified candidate needs excellent computer skills, be able to work with the public and open and close the office.
"They also need good phone skills and be able to qualify to be bonded so they can handle money," Staggs says.
