(BEDFORD) - Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis has proclaimed Tuesday Rebecca Dewey Day. Rebecca Dewey was the first person buried in Green Hill Cemetery in 1826.
Her grave was marked with a simple oak plant bearing her initials and a picket fence was erected around her grave in the northeast section of the cemetery.
Since then her headstone rotted away, but on Tuesday thanks to the efforts of Gene Able and other generous individuals Rebecca will get a new headstone.
The stone will be dedicated at 10 a.m. -188 years after her death. The ceremony is open to the public.
