(HAYDEN) - One of the three men arrested in the slaying of Hayden gun shop owner Scott Maxie delivered a package to the gun shop owner’s residence Friday afternoon.
According to Jennings County Prosecutor Alan Marshall, 24-year-old Darryl Worthen, of Indianapolis, who works for FedEx, frequently stopped at Maxie's gun shop, Muscatatuck Outdoors in the 8400 block of West County Road 200 South, to deliver guns.
The events that led to the shooting death of Maxie began Friday when Worthen delivered a package to the business. He returned to the gun shop on Saturday along with his brother 23-year-old Dejaun and cousin 20-year-old Darion Harris.
Some Hayden area residents took note of the vehicle the three roommates were in on Saturday and saw the same vehicle return to and then leave the shop again on Sunday, Prosecutor Alan Marshall said during a press conference Tuesday.
The men are facing murder and robbery charges.
61-year-old Maxie was found dead from one gunshot wound to the head lying on the floor of his shop located just east of the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge. The shop was part of Maxie's home.
Maxie had as many as 200 guns in his shop. An audit of the shop showed that only 47 guns had been stolen. Four of those were recovered.
