(BEDFORD) - To kick off Indiana’s College Go Week, StoneGate Arts & Education Center, 405 I St., will mark its grand opening with a Lawrence County Education Week kick-off press conference, ribbon cutting and open house today at 10 a.m.
Among the speakers expected to attend the celebration are Jenny Vaughn, chancellor of Ivy Tech Community College-Bloomington; Robert Yeager, vice president of Oakland City University; Mayors Shawna Girgis of Bedford and Gary Pruett of Mitchell; Gary Conner and Dr. Steve Phillips, superintendents of North Lawrence and Mitchell Community schools; Marla Jones, Lawrence County Bicentennial Commission coordinator; Megan Barnes of the Bedford Public Library; Barbara Martin, Southwest Indiana regional coordinator of 21st Scholars; Keeley Stengel of the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs; Mitchell Chamber of Commerce representatives, and Susan Hayes, StoneGate Center program manager.
Representatives from Ivy Tech, Oakland City University, Bedford Public Library and Up4Ed/ 21st Century Scholars will offer informational booths.
In addition, Oakland City University will waive its college application fee, offer information about a variety of OCU's programs and courses, discuss enrollment and financial aid options and answer questions. Ivy Tech will conduct an express enrollment day from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. during which students can complete applications, take the Accuplacer assessment, complete orientation, set up a Campus Connect account, pay tuition, schedule a campus tour and register for classes.
