(BUDDHA) - A 14-year-old Bedford boy was injured after he lost control of the ATV he was driving and struck a tree Monday.
The accident happened on private property off Buddha Road shortly before 5 p.m.
An off-duty Indiana Conservation officer was in his patrol vehicle and pulled up on the accident scene.
According to police, 14-year-old Brandon Teague was driving a full-size Suzuki ATV when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Teague was thrown from the vehicle, suffering head injuries.
He was flown to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville by an Air EVAC helicopter.
Police say Teague was not wearing a helmet or any safety equipment during the incident.
Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage riders to always wear a helmet and necessary safety equipment when operating an ATV.
