(CARLISLE) - A Fort Wayne woman was arrested after Wabash Valley Correctional officers discovered she was smuggling drugs into the prison.
43-year-old Heather Roberts was arrested on felony charges of trafficking with an inmate and possession of a scheduled narcotic substance. She is currently being held in the Sullivan County Jail on a $19,000 bond.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Roberts was stopped by correctional officers and told them she had hidden more than 30 suboxone strips inside a balloon to give to her offender boyfriend.
The identity of the offender Roberts was planning on visiting is not being released. But they do say he has been placed in a restricted status housing unit and charges could be pending the outcome of the prison criminal investigation.
"If you try to bring drugs or any other contraband into our facility, expect to be arrested and charged," said Superintendent Richard Brown.
Formal reports will be submitted to the Sullivan County Prosecutor's Office with more arrests possible.
