(BEDFORD) - A Bedford man was arrested after a domestic fight at his home in the 1300 block of 22nd Street early Sunday morning.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to the home at 2:19 a.m.
"When officers arrived they found the house in disarray and a woman bleeding from her mouth," Parsley says.
The woman told police that she and her husband had been in a verbal dispute that turned physical. She alleged 52-year-old Michael Evans had slammed her head into a wall and then punched her in the mouth.
"When the woman attempted to dial 911, Mr. Evans allegedly grabbed her phone preventing her to call for help," Parsley added. "She was able to get the phone and make the call."
Evans fled the home before police arrived.
An ambulance was called and the woman was treated at the scene and then taken by private vehicle to the hospital.
While Bedford Police officers were at the home, a Lawrence County Police officer had stopped Evans' vehicle on Mitchell Road.
A Bedford officer went to the scene and arrested Evans on charges of domestic battery and interfering with reporting a crime.
