(BLOOMFIELD) - The Bloomfield Teacher’s Association is sponsoring a forum for candidates for both the Bloomfield School Board and the Indiana House District 62 race on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Bloomfield High School Cafeteria.
The Greene County Daily World reports the event marks the return of a very popular and informative event according to Teacher's Association spokesperson Erin Raper.
"The public as well as the staff have enjoyed having the opportunity to hear responses from all the candidates concerning their motivation for office and primary concerns for the upcoming job," Raper added
The inclusion of District 62 candidates -- incumbent Republican Matt Ubelhor and Democratic challenger Jeff Sparks -- is a new edition to the event, and one that Raper hopes will bring added interest for not just Bloomfield residents, but all of those affected by the race.
"This year, I suggested that we add those to the forum who are seeking office at the House level in our district," Raper said. "We know how directly their work affects local business and education. And we did it as a way to promote local interest and educate the community about the election process in a professional setting."
Expected to be in attendance are Bloomfield School District school board candidates Chad Strange, Steve Jones, Eric Moody, Rodney Roark, Sandy Parkes, Scott Yoho, Matthew Miller, Keven McIntosh and Terry Gilmore as well as both house candidates.
"This is in no way intended to be a partisan event," Raper said. "But an event for the common interest of the community to become informed and be involved as a civic responsibility."
The format includes an opportunity for all candidates to introduce themselves to the audience and answer a list of predetermined questions.
The candidates will have prior knowledge of the questions selected by the administration and Bloomfield Teacher's Association and there will no questions fielded from the audience due to time constraints.
The event, which will be streamed live on the Greene County Sports Network and available through a link on the Greene County Daily World's website, will be moderated by Kyle vonAlmen. Ben Helms will act as time keeper.
