(JACKSON CO.) - A two-vehicle crash on I-65 north of Seymour claimed the life of a motorcyclist Wednesday morning.
According to Indiana State Police, a 2007 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by a 58-year-old James P. McHugh Jr., of Prospect Heights, Illinois was traveling south on I-65 when it struck the rear of a 2013 International semi-tractor pulling a 2012 Wabash box trailer operated by 52-year-old Richard Gavin, of Gainesville, Florida.
Gavin and other motorists were stopped southbound in a traffic backup due to road construction when the accident happened at 10:30 a.m.
During the collision McHugh was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash caused the I-65 southbound lanes to be shut down for several hours as a crash investigation was conducted.
