(BEDFORD) - The overall and men’s winner Michael Eaton of Louisville and female champion Rebecca Walter of Bloomington took home $500 apiece for conquering the windy, chilly conditions in Bedford’s First Half Marathon And 5K Saturday.
The event drew more than 700 participants between the 3.1 half-marathon, the 5K (3.1-mile) race and the family fitness fun one-mile run/walk.
Eaton chewed up his competition with a solid time of 1:10.32, as he outdistanced Springville's Kyle Stansbury in 1:13.40 and Bloomington's Ben Draper.
Draper, who is originally from Georgetown and graduated from Floyd Central High School, knew what he and the rest of the field were up against when Eaton entered. Draper was just behind Stansbury at the finish line.
30-year-old Rebecca Walter took first for the women, completing the course in 1 hour, 21 minutes and 15 seconds.
Walter, founder of UGO Energy Bars, is originally from Detroit, but made her way to Bloomington to coach women's track and field for seven seasons. She left that behind to become an entrepreneur with the UGO venture.
Bedford's Jill Vance won the 5K race in just under 20 minutes.
