(GREENE CO.) - Five people were arrested on theft and criminal trespass Wednesday night at County Road 1100 West and 700 North.
According to Greene County Sheriff's Department Deputy Jeff Brown, the arrests were made after a diligent property owner began conducting his own surveillance - because he was tired of his belongings being stolen.
The News Bab reports, 27-year-old Brandon Starr, 18-year-old Blake Camden, 24-year-old Darrell (DJ) May, 39-year-old Juanita Griffith, all of Linton, and 35-year-old Shaun Pierce of Lyons were arrested after the property owner noticed an unknown vehicle pulling onto his property and driving around his barn with its lights off.
Brown said, when the suspects loaded scrap metal into the rear of their vehicle and left with the stolen items, the property owner turned on his headlights and followed the vehicle south on County Road 1100 until the vehicle ran off the road. When police arrived, the suspects reportedly ran into the woods, giving officers a short chase before they were apprehended.
Griffith faces additional preliminary charges of possession of paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance, both class A misdemeanors.
Deputy Davis Aerne, Jasonville Police Department Assistant Chief Ryan Van Horn, Officer Andrew Duguay, and Officer Brian Pilant, and Linton Police Officers Paul Clark and Nick Yingling assisted at the scene.
