(PORTSMOUTH, OH) - According to a report from the Portsmouth (Ohio) Daily Times, former Indiana University women’s soccer player Lisa Nouanesengsy was injured in an apartment fire on Friday morning.
Portsmouth Fire Chief Bill Raison says Nouanesengsy was transported to OSU Medical Center in Columbus. Nouanesengsy, of Huber Height, Ohio, reportedly suffered extensive burns to her hands and legs.
She was a second team All-big Ten as a senior for the Hoosiers last season. She finished her career third in goals scored and fifth in points all-time in IU women's soccer history.
People in the downtown area of Portsmouth reported hearing an explosion. Minutes later an apartment building at 717 Sixth St. went up in flames.
Apartment owner Harold "Bud" Sayre say repairmen were working on the furnace and then there was an explosion.
Sayre was visibly shaken as he stood in the street and watched the building collapse a section at a time.
