(PAOLI) - 49-year-old Jeffrey Fulton, of Paoli, pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife, 34-year-old Michelle Fulton.
Fulton was arrested last week after a two-day search of the couple's home on Valeene Road in Paoli. During that search police found human remains in a wooded area.
Police believe Fulton hit his wife in the head with a frying pan, killed her and then attempted to burn her body. But Fulton told police that one of the couple's children had dropped Michelle off at the Jasper Kmart on June 18 and he hadn't heard from her since.
Orange Circuit Court Judge Larry Blanton appointed Marcus Burgher IV of Harrison County to serve as Fulton's public defender. If found guilty, Fulton could face a 65 year maximum sentence.
Fulton is scheduled to be in court again on Nov. 17 for a pre-trial omnibus hearing. His jury trial is scheduled for Feb. 10.
