(BROWN CO.) - The coroner’s office and Brown County Sheriff’s Department are trying to determine the identity of a woman whose body was found in an animal pen Thursday night on Oak Ridge Road.
Brown County Chief Deputy Coroner Earl Piper says the best means of positively identifying her is probably DNA.
Piper says he has an idea who the woman is, but doesn't have enough evidence to release her name.
Police received a 911 call just after 7 p.m. Thursday night from a neighbor saying they found a woman dead in a pen in the 7400 block of Oak Ridge Road. The woman's body was taken to Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Police do not believe an animal caused the woman's death, but they are not sure why the woman was in the pen. The only animal in the pen was a Great Pyrenees and animal control removed the animal and took it to a local shelter.
Piper says the woman has been dead for about a week or more and because of that officials are unable to identify her.
Police are hoping to identify the woman using DNA. How long that process will take is unknown.
