Princeton Man Dies In Daviess County Collision

Last updated on Monday, October 20, 2014

(DAVIESS CO.) - A Princeton man was killed when a bulk-fuel hauling truck collided with a passenger car on U.S. 50 near County Road 1200E Thursday afternoon.

The accident occurred at about 5:28 p.m. when a 2011 Toyota Corolla driven by Craig E. Brittingham of Princeton crossed the center line from the eastbound lane into the westbound lane for an unknown reason. The Toyota ran into the path of a westbound 2004 Peterbilt Tanker owned by White River Coop of Loogootee driven by David E. Mallett of Plaineville, Ind.

The impact pushed the Toyota southwest across the road into a ditch. The car had significant damage to its front-end and Brittingham was trapped.

The Peterbilt then collided with two more eastbound vehicles; a 2003 Volkswagon Jetta driven by Aaron T. Means of Loogootee and a 2014 Ford Focus driven by Kimberly J. Henninger of Shoals. The Jetta remained in the roadway but the Focus was spun around and ended up in a ditch on the south side of the road.

Brittingham had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was then taken by ambulance to Daviess County Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The other three drivers were treated and released at the scene by Southwest Medical personnel.

The Daviess County Sheriff's Department was assisted on the scene by Martin County Sheriff's Department, Montgomery and Cannelburg fire departments, Loogootee Police Department, Indiana State Police, Loogootee Fire Department and Air Evac.
