(JACKSON CO.) - Several motorists found themselves in the middle of a pursuit that began in Seymour and ended about 45 minutes later northwest of Brownstown, with speeds that reached 100 miles per hour.
Police arrested 40-year-old Keith Warnock and his wife 39-year-old Jill Warnock, both of Seymour. They are being held in the Jackson County Jail without bond.
The Seymour Tribune reports that the pursuit began about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on South O'Brien Street in Seymour, continued on various county roads in Brownstown, Jackson and Hamilton townships and ended at a residence at County Road 150N near County Road 400E,
Jackson County Officer Rob Henley says the fleeing couple showed no regard for others by sailing through intersections without stopping.
Henly says the pursuit crossed U.S. 50 two times.
Officers attempted to get a head of the fleeing vehicle, and used stop-sticks to end the pursuit safely but each time Warnock drove around the sticks into a field.
Once the vehicle stopped at the home, Keith Warnock fled the vehicle. Henly and Brownstown Officer Joe Kelly caught him after, Kelly shot Warnock with his stun gun.
Officers recovered a bag containing drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Lt. Andy Wayman says the pursuit was allowed to continue for as long as it did because it was not occurring in a heavily populated area.
Warnock faces charges of illegal drug lab possession, possession of meth and possession of meth with the intent to deal, resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, driving while suspended, criminal mischief and criminal recklessness.
Jill Warnock, who stayed in the car, faces a charge of theft from an incident earlier this week.
That is what started the pursuit.
Keith Warnock and his wife were at the Dollar General store on West Tipton Street in Seymour and allegedly stole clothing, boots and other items. Witnesses told police the Warnocks were in a gray Ford Taurus.
About 5:22 p.m. Tuesday, Seymour Officer Chip Petro reported he saw Keith Warnock drive by him on South O'Brien Street. When Warnock spotted the officers he sped down Vine, Oak and South streets before heading south of Seymour.
Officer Petro pursued but damaged his police vehicle as he followed Warnock into a cornfield.
Officers with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Brownstown Police Department picked up the pursuit near county roads 200N and 600E.
