(BEDFORD) - This year’s goal for United Way of South Central Indiana is $225,000.
Last year's campaign raised $220,000 reaching their goal. Executive Director Lorri Hammer is hoping to reach goal again this year.
Campaigns began in September and will continue through January. Money raised is used to fund 12 nonprofit agencies that serve Lawrence and Orange counties.
Most campaign funds are raised through payroll deduction. Dollars also are contributed by individuals who donate directly.
Local companies like General Motors and others, have contests and prize giveaways to encourage employees to donate.
The goal of all the agencies and United Way is to raise the community from challenging circumstances by improving educational attainment, health and employment opportunities with programs like Kindergarten Countdown, Bridges Out of Poverty workshops, Getting Ahead, lifting people out of poverty and FamilyWise a prescription discount insurance.
To donate or develop a campaign fund raiser contact United Way at 279-5473.
