(BLOOMINGTON) - Two people suffered stab wounds after coming to the rescue of a woman who was being threatened by a man with a knife.
The man fled after the incident into a wooded area near the Twin Lakes Sports Park on West Bloomfield Road.
Bloomington and Monroe County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene and used floodlights and a police dog to search for the man.
A woman told police she was retrieving a package from her mailbox at Bloom Apartments in the 900 block of South Adams Street around 6:30 p.m. when a man who was riding a bicycle grabbed her from behind and put a knife to her throat threatening to kill her. The woman screamed and that is when two people, a man and woman, came out of their apartment to the woman's rescue and were stabbed. The woman who was stabbed in her arm and right side grabbed the woman and they ran to a nearby apartment and called 911. In the meantime the male was struggling with the attacker and he too was stabbed in the side.
Police and an ambulance rushed to the scene. The injured man and woman were taken to IU Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.
Police then began their search for the man described as being a tall black man with shoulder-length dreadlocks and wearing all black clothing. Police searched for the man until after 9 p.m.
