(BLOOMINGTON) - Bloomingfoods workers voted Tuesday to unionize, according to union and company officials.
Scott Barnett, organizing director for United Food and Commercial Workers Local 700, confirmed the co-op's employees voted to unionize and be represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 700.
The vote in favor of the measure comes less than a month after Bloomingfoods management announced neutrality on the issue at their annual board meeting.
The vote was 88-23, in favor of unionizing according to Bloomingfoods employee Dakota Walker.
United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 700, which will represent Bloomingfoods employees, will begin the collective bargaining process soon and reaching an agreement could take months. The process will start with electing a committee of workers to serve on the bargaining committee.
