(BEDFORD) - Incoming Sheriff Mike Branham has named Cody Medlock as his chief deputy.
"Obviously, some of the most important early decisions I will make will be whom I choose to help me lead the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department over the next four years," Branham wrote in an email. "The first of those choices is the chief deputy. Over the course of the last several months I have considered a number of very qualified individuals. As the election drew closer that list began to narrow, and since the election, one individual stood out as the person with the qualities I feel are necessary for this important position. Cody Medlock has a history of serving his country and his community, and because of his commitment to serve he has the leadership experience, law enforcement experience, and education to serve as my Chief Deputy."
Medlock currently serves as a detective for the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department and is a member of the Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.). He also serves on the board for Superior Court II Drug Court.
Prior to returning home to Bedford, Medlock was a sheriff's deputy in Monroe County.
In addition to his law enforcement experience, he also served as a corrections officer and volunteer firefighter.
Medlock spent six years in the United States Marine Corps, serving two combat tours in Iraq before being honorably discharged in the spring of 2007.
Medlock holds bachelor degrees from Indiana State University in criminal justice and criminology, and also has an associate's degree from Ivy Tech Community College.
Cody Medlock has committed his entire adult life to public service - whether as a Marine, volunteer firefighter or in law enforcement.
"He is committed to excellence and I am honored to have him work alongside me and the rest of the public safety team in Lawrence County," Branham added. "Cody is proud to be serving his home community in this capacity and looks forward to the future with great anticipation.:
He is married to Bedford Chamber of Commerce President Jamie (McNichols) Medlock and they have one young daughter.
