(BEDFORD) - The Bedford Public Library’s new arts display from Traditional Arts Indiana features Marvin Kemper of Ferdinand, who builds Kentucky long rifles.
Kemper learned rifle-making from his father, who made more than 3,000 muzzle loaders during his gun-making career.
Kemper creates rifles using curly maple that he finishes with decorative inlay, engraving and relief carving techniques.
The display, which changes every two months, is sponsored by the Indiana Arts Council in collaboration with Indiana University and The National Endowment for the Arts.
The Giving Tree
The Giving Tree stands in adult services section of the library.
Through it, organizers collect new children's hats, gloves, scarves and socks, as well as socks for nursing home residents. Handmade items are welcome.
Donated items will be distributed in the community in mid-December. The Giving Tree is in its sixth year at the library.
