(BLOOMINGTON) - About 20 employees at Premier Healthcare will lose their jobs in 60 to 90 days in a cost-cutting move by one of Bloomington’s largest physician groups.
Wes Ratliff, president of Premier Healthcare in Bloomington, says this has been the most difficult thing the board has done.
About half of the 40 employees in Premier Healthcare's billing department will lose their jobs - a few will be transferred to other positions.
The layoffs are because many of the group's billing department's functions will be outsourced to Greenway, a billing company in Illinois that uses a practice management system to process claims.
Premier needs to cut costs because its expenses are going up and its reimbursements are declining, forcing the board to make decisions on how to become more efficient.
Premier Healthcare is a multi-speciality medical group that serves about 100,000 patients at six sites in Bloomington. It has 92 providers, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and others.
