(BLOOMINGTON) - Police are suggesting caution for students in Bloomington as they investigate five different reported sexual assaults.
Halloween has become known as a prime hook-up time, but in Bloomington, police say it went too far. With big house parties and meetups at bars, investigators say five sexual assaults were reported off-campus.
Bloomington Police Capt. Joe Qualters says the common theme seems to be excessive use of alcohol and people found themselves with people they didn't know.
Police say at one house party with 100 guests, an 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted. After another house party, a 20-year-old ended up at a house she didn't even recognize and was also assaulted.
Another victim went home from a bar, police say, with men she didn't know. She was also sexually assaulted.
Police say that may just be the tip of the iceberg, because sexual assault is a grossly under-reported crime.
