(BEDFORD) - Bedford Mayor Shawna Girgis announced her 2015 bid for mayor Tuesday at Limestone Cafe.
Girgis, an independent, and the first female mayor of Bedford, is in her second term. She first took office January 2008 and now is seeking a third term.
Citing new business development, the Up4Ed initiative and the Stellar Community designation, Mayor Girgis sent out a letter to supporters, Tuesday.
"Over the next few years, you can expect walking trails, a revitalized downtown, growing emphasis on education and training, infrastructure improvements and community development, to name a few. My dedication to these, and many other projects, is why I am seeking re-election. I thank you for all you have done in the past and am asking for your support in the 2015 election, " she wrote.
During the event she discussed how her and other city officials will work to build a better Bedford.
Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan says he won't seek a fourth term.
Kruzan announced Tuesday he will leave the mayor's office at the end of 2015. He says he never thought he would serve eight years as mayor, let alone 12 years.
Before being first elected mayor 2003, Kruzan served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1986 to 2002. When he left the Legislature, he was House majority leader.
Kruzan says he has no plans to remain involved in politics.
