(BEDFORD) - A Superior Court I jury is hearing testimony on how 33-year-old Jeffery Gipson of Mitchell allegedly had sexual intercourse with his girlfriend’s 13-year-old daughter.
Gipson, of Bedford, was arrested in May on three counts of child molesting, one count of attempted child molesting and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to a probable cause affidavit Gipson had known the teenager since she had been 8 and was "like a father to her." In April, police say, Gibson attempted to have sex with the girl. He also rubbed the girl and performed oral sex on her twice.
The girl told police Gipson has fallen in love with her when she was 11 and that the two had drank shots of liquor together and on those occasions is when the alleged molesting took place.
Gipson admitted to Indiana State Police officer that he and the girl had drank together and had laid down on a bed together, but denies the other allegations.
Gipson, is accused of providing alcohol to the victim, then later removing some of her clothing to have sex at a home in Mitchell in April 2012.
The Times Mail reports that the victim, now 15, testified, she considered Gipson like a father to her and that she was raised by grandparents when, at age 2, her mother gave consent for them to adopt her. She later was reunited with her mother, and her mother's boyfriend Gipson became part of their lives. Gipson and the girl's mother were in a relationship for about six years. The victim, her mother, a younger brother, Gipson, and her mother's friend Michael Allen, were living in Mitchell when the alleged abuse took place.
The victim's mother was at work at a gas station when she and a friend who was also 13, went to visit Gipson at a house where he was staying with friends. The victim testified they took Gipson pancakes and planned to watch the movie, "The Hunger Games."
Soon after arriving, Gipson and a friend, who was also at the house, brought out alcohol.
The victim testified she didn't want any, but ended up having two or three shots, along with her friend.
A short time later, her friend and "Jason," Gipson's friend, went to another room to listen to music.
The girl testified they were watching the moving and were under a blanket together when Gipson asked her to take her clothes off and he attempted to have sex with her.
The girl asked Gipson to stop and that is when her friend walked into the room. The girl got dressed and Gipson walked the girls to her home a few blocks away.
When the girls got to the house the victim told her friend what happened and then took a bath because she "felt nasty."
The next day, the girl told her mother what happened, but asked her not to call police. The mother waited three days before reporting the incident to police.
The friend testified that she thought Gipson was hot and the two began texting each other and sending each other explicit photos of each other.
She testified that in March of 2012, she had stayed the night at the victim's house, sleeping on the couch. In the morning of March 31, the family prepared to leave for a visit to the Indianapolis Zoo with Michael Allen. The victim's mom had to work, and Gipson stayed behind. The victim's friend also remained at the house. She testified that once they were alone, she and Gipson had sex that day. She told Woodward it was consensual.
The teen keep the information from her friend, until she couldn't keep the secret any longer and told her at school. The teen felt guilty about what she did and also told her friend's mother and apologized.
The girl then told Gipson what she did and the two got into an argument and he called her a "snitch."
Testimony resumed today.
