(UNDATED) - A decision about a proposal to upgrade the Louisville & Indiana Railroad to allow an increase of longer, faster and heavier trains between Indianapolis and Louisville might happen before the end of this year.
The announcement was made Friday after the federal Surface Transportation Board's Office of Environmental Analysis released its supplement environment assessment of the project first proposed by L&I and CSX Transportation Inc. more than a year ago.
With the release of that assessment, a 30-day public comment period has begun. It will end Dec. 1, and the federal board is expected to issue a decision about the project by the end of December.
