(BEDFORD) - The Knights of Columbus Council 1166 completed its 37th annual Tootsie Roll drive on Sept. 5-6 raising $17,231.26.
Funds raised from the annual event support members of our community that have intellectual and developmental disabilities.
That amount bringing the grand total to more than $273,000 raised since the effort began in 1978.
Proceeds from the 2014 drive were recently presented to North Lawrence Community Schools and to the Lawrence County Arc.
The funds donated to NLCS will be used to purchase equipment and supplies for Developmental Preschool Classes and to help furnish a Life Skills Area in the Special Education Department at BNL High School.
The funds donated to the Lawrence County Arc will be used to pay for supervised job trials aimed at helping mentally challenged clients find employment within in the community.
The Knights of Columbus would like to express their sincere appreciation to the many contributors from Bedford, Mitchell and the surrounding area.
