(DALE) - A two-vehicle accident near Dale took a life of retired Heritage Hills Middle School Principal Susan Grundhoefer.
The accident happened around 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Indiana 62 and U.S. 231.
Spencer County Coroner Robert Fuller says the 60-year old Grundhoefer died at the scene of blunt force trauma.
The Spencer County Sheriff's Department says Grundhoefer, who lives near where the accident happened, was driving a pickup truck west on Indiana 62 when she failed to yield to southbound traffic on U.S. 231 as it crossed the four-lane highway. Grundhoefer's truck was struck by a southbound SUV. The impact on the pickup's passenger door area caused it to roll over until it came to rest on its top.
Police have not released any information or condition update of the other vehicle involved in the accident.
The Indiana Department of Transportation updated the intersection in 2012 after several deaths. The majority involving motorists failing to yield from State Road 62. U.S. 231 originally went through the Town of Dale on what is now State Road 62, but when U.S. 231 was expanded to four lanes, it was rerouted west of Dale.
Spencer County Sheriff's Department was assisted by the Santa Claus Police Department, Indiana State Police, Carter Fire District Volunteer Fire Department, the Spencer County Coroner and Spencer County Emergency Medical Services.
