(PAYNETOWN) - Monroe Lake invites you to Paynetown State Recreation Area on Saturday, Dec. 13 to watch the Geminids meteor shower.
The Geminids are usually one of the strongest meteor showers each year, producing bright and colorful meteors.
The event runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
A naturalist will explain what's happening and point out other celestial objects of interest. There also will be a fire and hot chocolate.
Participants should bring a blanket or chairs for comfortable viewing and dress for the weather.
The program will be canceled if there is too much cloud cover. If sky conditions look questionable, call Paynetown Activity Center at (812) 837-9967 after 4 p.m. on Dec. 13 to check program status. Program updates will be posted on Monroe Lake's Facebook page at facebook.com/monroelake.
There is no gate fee during winter.
Monroe Lake (stateparks.IN.gov/2954.htm) is at 4850 South State Road 446, Bloomington, 47401.
