(LINTON) - A Lyons man was arrested after he got upset over a text messaged and began choking a woman while she was driving.
29-year-old Erik Roberson was arrested Dec. 12 following an incident in the Trinity Lutheran Church parking lot.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Linton Police were called to the church after a report of a domestic fight in the parking lot.
When police arrived they found a woman sitting in the driver's seat of a vehicle in the lot. Roberson was standing by the rear driver's door.
The officer asked if everything was okay and she nodded yes, but as soon as Roberson looked away the woman nodded no and showed the officer red marks on her neck.
The officer then separated the two so he could speak to the woman.
The woman told police that Roberson got upset over a text message she had received and had choked her while she was driving. Two children were also in the vehicle. She told police she managed to pull into the church lot, despite Roberson holding her wrists and choking her.
Roberson however told police he never choked the woman and that she had hit him after he got upset about the text message.
But police say Roberson had calamine lotion on his face and both hands and the woman now had that same lotion on her neck from Roberson choking her.
A witness, who called in the domestic fight, told police they witnessed Roberson yelling at the woman and that the woman had locked Roberson out of the vehicle and he was hitting the top of the car with his fists.
Roberson was arrested on charges of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old and strangulation, and interference with the reporting of a crime.
