(BEDFORD) - Three Bedford Police officers were honored this week with a Life Saver Award from the American Police Hall of Fame.
Sgt. Timothy Chen, Sgt. John Ritter and Officer Anthony Wray were recognized for helping save a woman's life.
According to Bedford Police Chief Dennis Parsley, officers were called to a home on Oct. 17 after a report of an unresponsive woman who had possibly overdosed.
"When officers arrived they found the woman in a bath tub filled with water, blue and not breathing," Parsley says. "They immediately took the woman out of the tub and began CPR. They did that for several minutes before the woman began taking shallow breaths."
The officers checked on the woman a few days later and found she was doing fine.
Parsley, who nominated the officers for the Hall of Fame, is proud of his officers.
"They are always going above and beyond what is required of them," he added. "They gave this woman another chance at life."
The officers were presented with a certificate, a plaque, a metal and an insignia to wear on their uniforms. Parsley says letters of recognition were also placed in the officers personnel folders.
