(UNDATED) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources wants residents to start the New Year on the right foot, but taking a hike at Spring Mill State Park or Patoka Lake.
Hikers are encouraged to meet at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Twin Caves parking lot. The walk will feature an interpreter portraying George Donaldson of Scotland, who purchased land from Spring Mill residents in 1865. He never became a United States citizen and returned to Scotland in 1897. The property later became part of the park.
The 1-mile hike through moderate terrain will take walkers through the old-growth section of Donaldson Woods.
At Patoka Lake, a hike will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday on the Garden Rock Loop trail. The three-quarter mile walk will begin at the nature center.
