Worthington Couple Arrested After Domestic Fight

Last updated on Wednesday, December 31, 2014

(WORTHINGTON) - A Worthington couple was arrested on Dec. 23 after Mastin Samm called police to complain that his wife Jackie Samm had been physical with him, and that they had slashed each others tires.

Both were arrested and are facing charges of domestic battery and domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16.

Worthington Police Officer Randy Rasner responded to the couple's home around 7 p.m. and found Mastin in the driver's seat of his vehicle, which had a flattened tire. Mastin told police his wife Jackie had struck him in the head, causing ear pain, and then slashed his tires.

Mastin also admitted to slashing the tires on Jackie's vehicle, but claimed he had not been physical with his wife.

Three juveniles witnessed the fight.

A neighbor, who took one of the juveniles into her home, told police that she had seen the Samms fighting on their porch. She told police that Jackie had hit her husband with a closed fist and that Mastin had hit Jackie with an open hand and that he had shoved Jackie, almost knocking her down.

An older juvenile told police that Mastin slashed Jackie's tires and kicked the door of Jackie's car.

The juvenile told police that he had grabbed a knife to attempt to protect Jackie and that she had taken the knife away from the juvenile and that Mastin had wrestled with him.

Jackie told police that Mastin had kicked some books on the floor and almost hit one of the children. Mastin then left the home, but returned and slashed her tires.

She told police she slashed Mastin's tires in retaliation.

Police say Jackie suffered two puncture wounds on her right leg and was treated at Greene County Hospital and was admitted to the hospital. Jackie told police that she received the injuries while she and Mastin were struggling on the ground before she slashed his tires.

A Department of Child Services family case manager was called to take care of temporary placement of the three children. DCS requested Jackie be given a drug screen.

No contact orders were issued for both parties. Mastin posted bond of $500 and Jackie posted bond of $150, both on Dec. 29. Hearings are scheduled for Jan. 5.
