Candidates File For Primary Election

(UNDATED) - Several candidates have filed to run in the Primary Election.

Major political party candidates seeking offices have until noon Feb. 6 to file.

The primary will determine candidates by party for the general election on May 5.

As of Friday afternoon, 19 people filed to seek their party's nominations.

Bedford

Clerk-treasurer: Julie Blackwell Chase, Republican, incumbent.
City council, District 1: Patrick Wayne Robbins, Democrat, incumbent.
City council, District 2: Michele A. Murphy, Republican, incumbent.
City council, District 3: Byron Buker, Republican, incumbent.
City council, District 4: Judy Carlisle, Republican, incumbent.
City council, at-large (two seats): Adele Bowden-Purlee, Republican, incumbent; Mark E. Scherschel Sr., Republican, incumbent; Howard H. Scott, Republican.

Mitchell

Mayor: Vicky Schlegel, Republican; Ernest D. Speer, Democrat; Danny Terrell, Republican; Eugene "Pud" Terrell, Democrat.
Clerk-treasurer: Mark Bryant, Republican; Steve Burton, Republican.
City council, District 1: Nancy Miller, Republican, incumbent.
City council, District 2: George James III, Republican.
City council, District 3: Joey D. Slone, Democrat, incumbent; Perry Reynolds, Republican.
Oolitic
Clerk-treasurer: Jessica Staggs, Republican, incumbent. (The town council appointed her to the post in September to replace the retiring Jim Staley.)

The following offices are up for election:

Bedford: Mayor, clerk-treasurer and all city council seats, which includes two at-large seats and five district spots.

Mitchell: Mayor, clerk-treasurer and all city council seats, which includes four district spots and one at-large seat.

Oolitic:Clerk-treasurer, town council (wards 1 through 3) and two at-large town council seats.
