Chris Shaw Re-Elected President Of Mitchell School Board

(MITCHELL) - Chris Shaw was re-elected to serve as president of the Mitchell school board. Patrick Redman will serve as vice president and Crystal Mikels was re-elected to serve as board secretary.

The board voted to keep its base stipend at $2,000, which is the same rate as last year. Board members will receive $70 for each regular and special meeting they attend, up from $25 in 2014. Board members will also receive $25 for each committee meeting they attend.

Board members also made the following appointments:

Melinda Powell reappointed as the school treasurer.
Debbie Arthur reappointed as deputy treasurer.
Chris Brown reappointed as extra-curricular treasurer, effective through June 30 when she will retire.
Dana Grimes as deputy extra-curricular treasurer, effective through June 30.
Steve Phillips as the local education officer.
Fleener Brooking, Phillips and Phil Storm as representatives to the Mitchell Community Schools insurance committee.
Greg Pittman as the school attorney.

The board also approved the 2015-2016 school calendar. Teachers will begin preparing their classrooms on August 3. The first day of school for students will be August 5.

Fall break is scheduled for Oct. 19-23, with Thanksgiving break Nov. 25-27 and Christmas break Dec. 19-Jan. 3. Spring break is scheduled for March 21-25.

The last day for students is May 24 and for teachers May 25. Graduation commencement is May 29.

Snow make-up days are Dec. 21, Dec. 22, Jan. 18, Feb. 15, April 11, April 22, April 25 and May 13.
