(BLOOMINGTON) - Tony Pizzo, a former legislator, city council member and leader in the Monroe County medical community for more than half a century, died early this morning.
Pizzo was inducted into the Monroe County Hall of Fame in 2005 for his many contributions to the community.
When he was a member of the city council he authored and championed a ban on smoking in public places in Bloomington. The controversial ordinance passed in 2003.
Pizzo had been seriously ill for about a month and died about 4 a.m., according to one of his sons, Angelo Pizzo.
