(BLOOMINGTON) - Drivers should continue to watch for oversize loads slowing traffic in Greene and Monroe counties as bridge beams are delivered for Interstate 69.
In particular, drivers should watch for slow-moving beams on State Roads 37 and 45.
Concrete bridge beam delivery for I-69 has been ongoing, but will increase as contractors prepare for paving in the spring. Escort vehicles are used to help guide the trucks and trailers.
In addition, existing cross-street traffic may be stopped temporarily as the new beams are installed. Beam deliveries should end as crews complete bridge work and prepare to open I-69 between Crane and Bloomington at the end of this year.
Updates will be posted to Facebook, Twitter and at INDOT's TrafficWise service, which may be accessed via indot.carsprogram.org, 800-261-ROAD or 511 on mobile phones.
About Interstate 69
The new I-69 between Evansville and Indianapolis is a key component to the future economic vitality of southwestern Indiana, and will connect an entire region with improved access to jobs, education and healthcare.
The 142-mile I-69 corridor is divided into six sections. The first three sections opened for business in November 2012, saving motorists more than 30 minutes of travel time between Evansville and Crane. More information about the I-69 Evansville to Indianapolis project may be found at www.i69indyevn.org.
